CSS - Cascading Style Sheets - Why should you use them ? How can they benefit you as a web designer ? CSS is much more than just changing the way your text looks, you can control an entire website's look with it. We will discuss the basics of CSS to get you started on the road to building web sites without tables for layout.

We highly recommend the following books for getting started with CSS:
Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS by Ian Lloyd

If you're designing with tables, make the transition to CSS with this book:
HTML Utopia: Designing Without Tables Using CSS (Build Your Own) by Dan Shafer

These 2 books by Eric Meyer (www.meyerweb.com) contain exercises to work as you learn:

    •  Good information, but I think we were sidetracked a little. There were lots of questions about Basic HTML, like 'what is a p<> tag?' indicating that we need to cover those basics of HTML to gain a better understanding of CSS implementation.
    •  This was our biggest turnout and, I think, one our best sessions - even if I was doing the presentation ;) We will continue to build on the basics and take people's requests and suggestions on how to make the group even better.
    •  A lot of work went into putting this together. The group had varied amounts of experience so it was a challenge to know what level to teach I'm sure. I think for me it would be helpful to do a simplified web site, going thru CSS step by step, in a series of classes.
    •  An excellent meetup. A good group, I'm looking forward to continuing my web education by attending these meetings to listen and learn from these generous teachers.
    •  While I knew most of what Diane was showing the group, it was good to find out hers and others best practices in regards to how to use certain CSS features to their advantage. The varying opinions on the CSS reset issue was rather interesting. Most people wanted to expand upon the concept of floats.
    •  This was one of the best meetings we've had. Very good use of time, stayed well focused on the topic at hand. I learned a lot from this. Great work on Diane's and Scott's part in pulling this together and sharing! Thank you!
    •  Enjoyed going over the basics and real world examples from people who have been using CSS a long time.
