Web Centric Newsletter - February 2008

The March Web Centric Meetup will be on Wednesday, March 12th on the third floor of the Fiddler's Green Pub on Wellesley Street in Toronto. No secret handshakes or silly 'moose calls' are required.

Developers meetup. I wanted to contact you about a couple of
positions that I'm currently working on in hopes that you'll
pass this along to others in the group. These are permanent,
full-time positions located in Quebec City. I'm reaching out

talented individuals who are open to making a move -- possibly

If you would like to be a guest speaker, let Co-Organizer Paul Sobocinski know - it helps if you can give him a rough outline of what you'd like to speak about.

We also request that you give a small donation (passed around in a beer pitcher at every meeting) to help defray the costs of running on Meetup. This helps Paul Rochford pay the monthly fee to use the site, and anything left over at the end of the year goes toward our big Christmas party blowout.

Just when you thought it was safe to open up your favourite geek magazine without being subjected to the endless SCO vs. IBM debacle, it appears SCO may go private shortly with the help of Stephen Norris Capital Partners in order to be able to continue its legal claims. And in related news that will surely draw tears from many Web Centric members, (most likely of laughter or relief rather than sorrow), longtime CEO Darl McBride is stepping down from the SCO Group in the wake of the buyout. There's no word yet on what he intends to do next, but rumours hold that he may sue his parents for giving him such a stupid name, or that they may sue him for royalties owed on unauthorized use of their genetic patterns. http://linux.slashdot...
