Summary of December Meetup (sorry about the lateness)

- 20 people attended
- New faces were introduced (lots of new memebers, and quite a few repeat members too!)
- Howard Carson gave a detailed and informative discussion on Writing for the web. Thanks Howard!
- $60.00 was taken in for book sales and member donations (see Wendy's previous post detailing the funds we've collected to date!!)
- Lots of mingling and new faces... Always an exciting time!

Introduction
New business
- Group website discussion: Mambo was decided on, and we formally announced the site design contest for our very own webcentrictoronto.org; submissions sent to Cory Koski; contest will run for 1 month; prize will be determined
Introduced new faces
WOWPad (Microthin.com) mousepad technology introduced by Howard Carson
Ask the expert
- Howard gave away a bunch of the excellent mousepads as prizes to people who asked questions, or answered a skill-testing question
Roundtable
Predictions 2006 and Web 2.0
- A very lively and contagious discussion!

Group Presentation - Brent Ashley - Ashley IT - www.ashleyit.com - "The AJAX Experience"
Brent Ashley is arguably one of the pioneers of Remote Scripting with JavaScript since 1999, and after many years, AJAX and the ideas he's been promoting finally have taken root and sprouted in the web industry. Brent gave an informative talk on AJAX, where we got to understand the basic precepts of the technology and approaches to implementing it. Thanks again Brent!

Book Raffle
"AJAX Patterns and Best Practices" by Christian Gross was generously donated by Apress Publishers from Berkley, California was donated for our raffle. Kevin Legault won this great book! Congrats!

Introductions
Paul was under the weather this month, so our meeting was led by Howard Carson, assisted by Cory Koski.

New Faces
There were some new faces, so thanks to all the new members that attended.

"News You Can Use" ? The Latest in Tech with Howard Carson/General Discussion
Howard started us off with a discussion on spammers and their strong-arm tactics against businesses to continue their activities. Our discussion migrated into the general discussion by talking about the recent activies of the spammer/hacker "pharma", to discussing the security of our operating systems.

Book Auction
There were a number of books dontated by KickstartNews.com that were snatched up in our book auction announced last month. There still a few titles left, and new titles are coming in July! This month featured a number of Java books by top tech publishers, and July's books should include more books that cover web server scripting.

Introductions
We were in full force this month with Paul back in the saddle. Paul announced that we are still working hard to collect enough monies to buy a new projector for the group. Our funds are increasing but we still need the support of the members. Also, Techspertise is officially sponsoring our groups Internet presence. Techspertise is responsible for the anual domain registration fees as well as contributing one of their comprehensive hosting packages worth 240 US dollars per year. Thank you www.Techspertise.com!

General Discussion
Paul briefly the idea of how to get clients to understand the power of the web.

"News You Can Use" The Latest in Tech with Howard Carson
Howard began the discussion of the evening talking about the net neutrality. It was evident that there are different definitions of net neutrality within the group, but we all agreed that this is an important topic that shouldn't be ignored.

Presentation
We would like to thank Sofia Ganni for conducting a Photoshop tutorial on panoramic photo stitching. I know many of our members learned a few tricks and things about Photoshop they had never seen before.
