Hi Folks
I made the mistake of upgrading my PC laptop to IE7 and now I have no way to test sites on IE6 as you evidentally can't run both versions on the same machine. However, I did find a handy link to a free download of Virtual PC 2004 and a testing image for IE6. http://blogs.msdn.com... I've gotten as far as downloading Virtual PC and the IE image, and I installed Virtual PC. However being a Mac weenie, I don't know how to install an operating system on the Virtual Machine I created. I don't have a CD, just the OS (XP Pro) that came preloaded on the laptop. Can anyone tell me how this could be done? Then I need to figure out what to do with the IE6 image. I'm building a dynamic site using a fair amount of CSS, so I need to see how badly IE6 is messing it up!! Thanks anyone. Nancy |

Hi Nancy,
I believe that the IE7 update can be uninstalled because it's just an "update" not a full install. Your on a Mac so I can't tell you the exact process but I can tell you how I did it. Under "Add/Remove Programs" let the window populate. There is a small check box at the top of this window named "updates". If you check this box it will show all the updates to your machine. Now you can scroll down the list and find the IE7 update and remove it! Don't know if that helps but there you have it. ![]() Mike |

Thanks for the good suggestion. (This whole discussion pertained to IE7 on my PC machine, there is nothing past the dreaded IE5 for Mac, but who cares???) Evidently you CAN uninstall 7, tho rumors have been around that you can't.
http://support.micros... Still doesn't allow both versions to run for testing, however. I guess 6 is the more unpredictable, so I'll go with that for now I suppose unless I get another answer to my Virtual PC query. Thank you very much! Nancy |

I'm obviously a little late to this discussion, but for future reference (or anyone looking at this for a solution), all of your multiple-IE dreams can come true by taking a look at the following sites:
http://stylizedweb.co... http://tredosoft.com/... And... http://creativebits.o... http://browsers.evolt... http://www.positionis... Please note that if you're using IE conditional comments (a good idea for the most part) they will not work when you're running standalone versions of IE. You'll have to use the * html hack or something else in your CSS to test that the styles you want to feed to a certain version of IE are working and then put those rules (minus the hacks if you can) into a separate style sheet, fed to the version of IE using IE conditional comments for production. And, if you're not sure what IE conditional comments are (and you really should), you can find out more here: http://www.quirksmode... http://www.positionis... |
